The Castle Lights of Winter
Every Christmastime season Disneyland always puts on a fabulous display of lights on Sleeping Beauty Castle! The castle turns into an icy Winter dream and is beautiful to see! Please enjoy a couple shots of this beautiful castle to brighten your Winter day! :)

Mickey's Fun Wheel - Light - Up Fun!
Hello again everyone!
Sorry yet again for my long absence. I've been extra busy lately finishing up school with my rotations and all, but I've finally found some time in my schedule to blog again! So, here goes! :)
I posted some pictures the other day of Mickey's Fun Wheel at night. Something I love to do while waiting for World of Color to start is to put my camera up on my tripod (or a fence if that's what's available) and start taking photos of the Wheel with long exposures. You can maybe judge the color that your photo will come out by the colors showing up on the wheel, but the surprise is in the patterns! It just depends on how long you let the wheel spin and what pattern the lights are flashing in their lines. It's a neat surprise each time you look at your photo. :)
SO.... onto the pictures! These were taken prior to me seeing World of Color for the first time. We had front, I mean FRONT, row seats to the show. It was just us and the open water in front of us, so I got very spoiled enjoying all the nice pictures I could take.
The first (and my favorite) of this post is a cool blue "strobe" pattern I got off the wheel! Not sure how the two tones of blue worked out, but I think it looks pretty neat nevertheless!
Next up we have a neat "Golden Glow" coming off the Wheel. Another funky and enjoyable pattern to look at.
Last for today we have another yellow / orange toned photo (I seemed to get a lot of those that night...), but this one with a simpler, cleaner pattern.

Nighttime Disney
Pics from the Pixie is back! I've been off from school on break, on vacation, and very busy, so I haven't had time to write any posts lately. But never fear, I'm back :)
For my first post back I thought I'd show some pictures of the beautiful nighttime views at the Disneyland Resort! The first picture of the day is from Fantasmic! This shot was taken from Fowler's Harbor near Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion. It's definitely an interesting spot to watch Fantasmic from if you've seen it lots of times from the regular front view!
I remember seeing Fantasmic for the first time when it premiered about 20 years ago. I was just a little kid then but we sat in the front right up against the water. I thought it was literally the COOLEST thing I had ever seen when the water was set on fire!
Next up is a shot from California Adventure! As I've shown in previous posts, you can always get some cool pictures of the Fun Wheel if you take an extended exposure of the wheel while it is spinning. This time it was a pretty gold color when I took my picture of it! Next time you're in the park give it a shot!
Third today is a shot I'd always wanted to take. I've always admired when people take pretty pictures of Disneyland signs at night and this time I took my own! A quiet summer night at Disneyland provided the perfect time for me to shoot the Pirates of the Caribbean sign!
Finally I have a shot of Disneyland's icon: Sleeping Beauty Castle! Each and every night I leave Disneyland I make it a point to turn around and look at the castle one more time before leaving the park. It's something I love doing and will continue to each time I go to the park! Anyone else do the same thing? :)

[Mickey's] Fun Wheel Friday
Thought I'd do something new for today's "Friday" post :)
The patterns that you can capture on Mickey's Fun Wheel are so neat! You never know what you're going to get! Since the colors and movements of the lights change, you can really get some awesome shots. Also, photographing the wheel like this gives you something fun to do while waiting for World of Color to start!
Mickey's Fun Wheel is such a pretty icon in California Adventure now! The big happy Mickey face along with those pretty dancing lights always brighten my day at the park. I love the sight of that huge ferris wheel and it's even more fun to ride. So my question for everyone who reads this is: Do you go on the swinging gondolas or the non-swinging ones? :) Please leave your answer in the comments!! It would be fun to see what people prefer to ride!

It's A Fantasmic Friday!
Happy Friday everyone!
Today's Fantasmic Friday is a short and sweet post because I've had an extremely busy week!
First up is a picture of our friend Mickey Mouse in the beginning of the show with his fireworks!
Next up we have a close-up photo of one of the spinning fireworks during the finale of the show!
Last for this Fantasmic Friday we have a picture of Snow White and Prince Charming dancing on their raft during the show! I was able to take this shot so close because I used my telephoto lens. I was quite proud of this picture because of all the elements captured in it! Snow White, her Prince, the fountains, and the lights on the raft! Hope you enjoy!

The World is A Carrousel of Color
"The world is a carrousel of color! Wonderful, marvelous color! A rainbow of imagination. A blue rolling sea, a red summer rose, a sunset in the sky. Beauty untold is ours to behold, to dazzle your mind and your eye!"
"The wonderful world of color! Wonderful, colorful, beautiful! The wonderful world of color! So wonderful, so beautiful to see!"
"Adventure is waiting, let it open your eyes! Imagine and see what wonders can be, each journey can hold a surprise!"
World of Color is SUCH a beautiful show! I've had the privilege to see it twice now and each time I watch it becomes even more beautiful to me! Even as I sit here and write this post I'm listing to the music from the show as inspiration! :) Both times I have seen this show it amazes me so much it brings tears to my eyes.
The first time I watched it (see pictures 2 and 3) I was in the very front and center! There was no one in-between me and the water at all! For those of you who have been to Disney California Adventure and seen the show, I was sitting in the "white" section. To spare my camera from an almost certain watery death, I decided to use the ponchos I had brought for myself to shield my camera and my tripod. It was quite a ridiculous looking setup but in the end my camera was perfectly dry and safe. Me, on the other hand, was drenched, shaking, and cold. If you know me or have seen a picture of me, you know I have really long blonde hair. To give you an idea of just HOW drenched I was, I had to wring water out of my hair after the show!! The second time I watched the show (picture 1) I was a little further back in the "yellow" section and had multiple ponchos this time! Some for me and the camera!
And if you were wondering, the little white spot in the top center of the photos is the moon! I was quite lucky this World of Color night and the moon was in JUST the right spot to be in all of my pictures!
I took tons of pictures of World of Color and will be posting many more in the future so be sure to stay tuned! I thought today I'd give a little taste of my pictures from this magnificent show! If you haven't had a chance to or haven't made time to see World of Color while you're at Disney California Adventure, please stop and take the time to see it! It is a fantastic show that is definitely worth the wait. I'm sure you'll be just as amazed by it as I am each and every time I see it!

Fireworks Friday - Magical
Happy Friday!
Another thing I LOVE to photograph is fireworks! I've been trying some different styles lately to get some neat fireworks shots that I'm pretty happy with. As always I'm working to improve the quality of my fireworks shots, but for a first try at this technique I'm happy with the results. Another note about these photos: I did not take these with a tripod, they were completely handheld.
For those who enjoy technical camera stuff, this section is for you! If not, please skip down to the photo :) I took these shots using an extremely low ISO around 200 to keep them from getting fuzzy. I also used a high F-stop around 22 so it would capture the light from the fireworks and keep the sky a dark black. Finally, I usually set the shutter speed to "bulb" so that as long as I hold the shutter button down it keeps taking the picture. This lets me time the shot to whichever fireworks I want so I can capture a full firework or multiple ones if I want as well.
This picture was taken this summer during the Magical fireworks show. This one is my favorite because of all the colors in the one firework that I caught! I even surprised myself that I got the shot completely still even though it was handheld! Next up is a picture from the finale of Magical. It's a little busy and has a lot of fireworks in the shot, but I do enjoy the sparkle it has!
The last photo for today I like because they have the big bright burst of light in the center of the firework! I think that's the initial pop of light that happens right when the shell bursts before you see the rest of the firework. The white/gold sparkle above it is one of those little fireworks that crackle that just happened to go off in front of the one I was photographing.

Star Tours: The Leader in Galactic Sightseeing
No visit to Disneyland is complete without at least one trip to a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away! That's right, I'm talking about Star Tours!
I have always loved Star Tours and make a point to ride it lots of times when I am in Disneyland! I do quite miss the old version of the ride (RIP Captain Rex) but the new Star Tours is also FANTASTIC! I've had the privilege to see all the different destinations and have had to date 16 different trips aboard a Starspeeder 1000!
This photo was completely unexpected! I went to take a shot of the Star Tours sign and was expecting silver, but the neon from Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters reflected off the sign and I came out with this! Looks really cool to me and I couldn't be happier with the result! I took this photo this past November on my first evening in the park. I had tried to get this photo in July when I was at Disneyland but it was so busy around Star Tours I wan't able to stand in one place and get this photo without getting run into by the mobs of people.
Next up is a photo from this past summer! I thought it was pretty cool that they had (and I believe still have) Stormtroopers patrolling the Star Tours line and surrounding area! I took this opportunity to snap a picture of one of the Stormtroopers checking passengers as they went to their loading gates! I'm not sure he was too happy with me getting pics of him, though! LOL
Last up for today is a picture of my favorite Star Tours character, R2-D2! I think he's adorable and I love how brave and funny he is! :) I even bought myself one of the toys that they currently sell at Disneyland of R2-D2! It lights up, his head spins around, and he makes his signature woooooo squeal! It literally is the coolest toy ever and I have no shame in saying I walked around Disneyland for an entire night playing with it! LOL As you all probably know, R2-D2 has always been in the main Star Tours queue room working on servicing the Starspeeder with C-3PO. This is a picture of just that! I even went for the "artsy" angle for the photograph. Hope you enjoy!

Fantasmic Friday - Murphy's Rage
Happy Friday!
I remember seeing this show for the first time back when it first debuted in 1992. It was so cool to me then as a kid and it's just gotten better over the years! I am a big fan of the show and try to see it at least once each trip to Disneyland!
A newer member of the show is the Maleficent dragon fondly known as Murphy (Murphy's Law: What can go wrong WILL go wrong). Replacing the older "Bucky" dragon, the new dragon stands around 45 feet tall, breathes fire, and moves! She's an impressive sight to see in person, especially when she breathes fire! The heat and brightness of the fire seems to push you back a step and is incredible! I've made it a goal of mine to try and get the "perfect" picture of her breathing fire and I do think I've gotten close! Here's the photo I think is one of the three best I've taken so far:
If you watch close, Murphy's eyes change color and expression throughout her part in the show! It's a neat little detail that I really love and I urge you to look a little closer the next time you watch the show so you can see it. The lighting and effects of the show add to how cool Murphy looks, especially with the fiery colors on her.
